This past holiday week proved to be a great opportunity for a few BATC athletes to shake off some cobwebs and test their fitness.

The racing week began with Magdalena Boulet taking on the Big Sur Half Marathon as a marathon pace workout. The gun went off in less than ideal conditions and Magda quickly found herself letting race leader Blake Russell go as she wanted to stay within her marathon zone. However, as the miles clicked by and she hit the turn around she found herself loosening up and feeling good. By mile ten she closed the gap that Russell had formed and took the lead for the final time. Magda crossed the line in first clicking 74 minutes in a really solid effort given the amount of miles in her legs right now. This is a great indication of what's to come for this 2008 Olympian as she prepares for the 2012 Trials which are January 14th in Houston.

On Thanksgiving both Clara Peterson and Michael Coe finished the Silicon Valley Turkey Trot with a lot to be thankful for. Clara stepped down from her day to day grind of marathon training to sharpen up with this 5k. She was anticipating a shock to system with short fast race against some of America's premier mid distance racers so she got out quick and to the front. She held her own and showed her studliness crossing the finish line at 16:24 in 4th place.

Coe had a great effort as well starting his comeback from an injury that has plagued him for several months. "It was a rust buster for me, but a very fun event to be at. Definitely a step forward considering all the time I had to take off this summer and early fall," Coe explained. He grabbed 10th place and completed the 5000m race in 14:01. Definitely looking for some big results to come from him as track season begins in the winter!

Lastly, we would like to give a BIG CONGRATULATIONS to all the Bay Area high schoolers who competed in Fresno this past Saturday at the California State Meet. A special congratulations to our Bay Area State Champions:
