BATC athletes were in action this week around the globe, from Monaco to Santa Cruz.  Magda Lewy-Boulet led the way with a big win at Wharf to Wharf in Santa Cruz, where she raced along side Clara Peterson, Jake Schmitt and Chris Chavez.  In European action, Shannon Rowbury lined up with the finest milers in the world in the 1500 meters in the Monaco Diamond League meet, where she ran a solid 4:06.

Lewy-Boulet used Wharf to Wharf as a local tune up before heading to Europe for her Diamond League debut in the 5k at Stockholm on July 29th.  “Winning a local race like Wharf to Wharf means so much to me.”, she explains, “My time, 30:49, gives me huge confidence going into Stockholm where I will chase a personal best in the 5k.”

Schmitt finished strongly in 8th place, closely followed by Chavez in 9th.  Chavez was satisfied with his result, saying, “My training has been going well overall lately, but I had a sub-optiimal last two weeks so I approached the race with a conservative mindset. I think there would have been a huge advantage knowing the course and the last 1.5 miles. Overall, I had a lot of fun running the race.”  Clara Peterson deserves special mention for running 33:51 a mere 14 weeks after giving birth to her daughter.

Rowbury was pleased with her race, even though she had hoped for a faster time. "I was hoping to run faster and get the A standard, but the race was pretty messy and I got knocked around a lot”, she said. “I’m happy that my fitness is progressing to the point where I can run 4:06 even with a lot of movement.”  Rowbury is carefully planning her season to peak at the World Championships in Daegu, South Korea, in late August.
