The Indoor Season is Here

The Olympic year is in full swing with the marathon trials complete and the indoor track season up and rocking. Several BATC athletes are stepping onto the oval for the first time with their spikes on ready to race. BATC Athletes Step out of Base Training to Bust Some Rust

By Jake Schmitt This past holiday week proved to be a great opportunity for a few BATC athletes to shake off some cobwebs and test their fitness. The racing week began with Magdalena Boulet taking on the Big Sur Half Marathon as a marathon pace workout. The gun went off in less than ideal conditions and Magda quickly found herself letting race leader Blake Russell go as she wanted to stay within her marathon zone. Alysia Montano Finishes 4th at World Championships

Alysia Montano finished a strong 4th place in the 800m final at the World Championships in Daegu, South Korea, on Sunday.  Her 1:57.48 performance was a seasonal best.  She finished 2 seconds behind winner, Mariya Savinova, of Russia, who ran 1:55.87. The tone of the race was set early thanks to a blistering half way split of 55 seconds.  Janeth Jepkosgei of Kenya, led the charge, with Montano just behind in 3rd position.  The pack regrouped on the final backstretch, but Montano found herself boxed in the middle of the pack...

BATC Olympic Trials Qualifiers

Jake Schmitt and Clara Peterson both stamped their tickets to the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials with their fast performances at the Giant Race Half Marathon this weekend.  Schmitt surged away early to win in a time of 1:04:51, while Peterson followed the perfect pace setting of Bay Area Track Club teammate Magdalena Lewy-Boulet to finish second, in 1:14:31. BATC at the World Championships

Shannon Rowbury advanced to the semi-finals of the women’s 1500m at the World Track and Field Championships in Daegu, Korea, on Sunday. Rowbury finished sixth in the tactical opening round heat, in a time of 4:14.43.  The pack started very slowly, covering the first 800 meters in 2:22. The pace stayed pedestrian until the final lap.  When the sprint unfolded, Rowbury was stuck in 7th position, just outside the last automatic qualifying spot. BATC athletes have been making the most of the past month in Europe, either getting ready for the upcoming World Championships or slashing PRs. The Diamond League meet that took place in Stockholm on July 29th was host to some of the best athletes in the world including a few of our own! Alysia Montano, David Torrence, and in her Diamond League debut, Magdalena Lewy-Boulet, took advantage of the Swedish crowd. Magda Lewy-Boulet won the Falmouth Road Race on Sunday, August 14th, in a time of 36:58.  The win came on the heels of a new 5K PR, 15:14.25, for Lewy-Boulet at the Stockholm Diamond League meet on July 29th.  It also marks her 2nd major road race victory this summer, after winning Wharf to Wharf in July.  Lewy-Boulet pulled away from 2nd place finisher Diane Nukuri-Johnson in the final mile.  The two had set a blistering pace that slowly whittled down the field throughout the 7 mile race.  Four time Boston Marathon ch...

BATC Weekly Racing Recap

BATC athletes were in action this week around the globe, from Monaco to Santa Cruz.  Magda Lewy-Boulet led the way with a big win at Wharf to Wharf in Santa Cruz, where she raced along side Clara Peterson, Jake Schmitt and Chris Chavez.  In European action, Shannon Rowbury lined up with the finest milers in the world in the 1500 meters in the Monaco Diamond League meet, where she ran a solid 4:06.   Lewy-Boulet used Wharf to Wharf as a local tune up before heading to Europe for her Diamond League debut in the 5k at Stockholm on ...
